One Room Schoolhouse

In 1980, a gift of a country school house from Alfred Zellmer was the third addition to the Historical Society Museum Complex.

Built by St. Peter’s Congregation, Town of Winchester, it came with the original desks among other furnishings.

It features the slate blackboards, wood stove, organ and a collection of children’s lunch buckets.

Books found in early schools are displayed. It is typical of schools that were established very early in each settlement. Exhibits include historical materials of the Winneconne School District including photos of some of the graduating classes.

Children are drawn to this museum as most of them have never seen a one-room school house.
